Flow

Flow

Diane Allen wanted to do more public speaking. But she needed a book to garner more engagements. It didn’t have to be a long book. It just needed to set forth the scientific principles and positive psychology behind the practice of flow that she teaches her clients.

As Diane’s bio states, “Years before neuroscientists discovered the positive impact the flow state has on achieving peak performance, Diane had already experienced the power of flow in her own career as a violinist. It was her unique approach to getting into flow, on demand, that landed her a spot on the TEDxNaperville stage as well as features on TED, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, Associated Press, Boston Herald, Authority Magazine, and Thrive Global.”

After meeting with me over a beer and discussing what she wanted to do, she sat down and pounded out an initial draft of her slender book. It needed a little work, as all first drafts do. But she had definitely nailed the most important part of her book—her own story related to flow. Being a violinist had taught her how to get into the flow state and eventually led to flow mastery.

Now, as a global authority on flow, she, in her words, “empowers people in all aspects of their lives to get into their flow on purpose, and with purpose.” And nine months after our initial chat, she has a book out that’s helping to spread the word.

Diane’s title, subtitle, and sales copy say it all:

Flow: Unlock Your Genius, Love What You Do weaves scientific principles, positive psychology, inspiring stories, and actionable steps for you to go beyond what you ever thought possible.

In the meantime, Flow, the book, is doing exactly what Diane hoped it would. Her speaking bookings have jumped, and in most cases, every attendee gets a copy. She’s also doing a bunch of book signings, where she gets to talk to people about her favorite topic. As she told me in an email, “The book launch after-glow continues.”
