Blogging

Blogging

I often dread writing my blog posts. I tend to delay for weeks, and then write two to three months’ worth, wondering every time whether I really need to blog weekly. Then I remind myself that the fresh weekly content is one of the reasons my website still usually ranks on the first three pages of Google. So, I suck it up and get to work.

I don’t mind the writing at all. It’s actually fun. I get to explore ideas and experiences, share knowledge, indulge in some humor, and basically give readers a sense of who I am and how I work through what I choose to write about and how I approach my topic. The topic can be the problem. What to write about week after week after week.

This time, I decided to look back at my calendar and refresh my memory about what has happened over the last couple of months. And boy, did I find a lot of fodder.

One aspect of my work that is particularly exciting is the variety of directions it takes. When I’m functioning as a writing coach, I’m dealing with people who are writing novels, memoirs, or nonfiction, all of which require different coaching approaches.

In addition, everyone brings their own skills and challenges to the writing process. Furthermore, at any given point in time, my clients are all at different stages of their books, which means we’re focusing on different issues.

So, my coaching sessions are never boring. To the contrary.

That would be diverse enough, but factor in manuscript critiques, developmental editing, line editing, as well as my Incubation Press company, through which I help people self-publish their books, and I’ve got quite a lot going on, so quite a lot to write about.

Most of us don’t think about blogging about our daily work or personal lives, because we’re so familiar with them. But others aren’t. And those snapshots can provide someone considering your product(s) or service(s) with just the push they need.
