I’ve become a bit Leica curious. I think that happened when first they released the M type 240 which seemed to address some of the things that kept me far away from the M9; And I think it got pushed over the edge when I saw I might have a whole bunch of travel later this year for work, and I was hoping to find something that was a bit more portable to use there, without having to compromise on quality.
So when a friend of mine said he was leaving town for a bit and I could play with his for a while, well how could I refuse?
The experience is vastly different from having a super modern DSLR like the 1DX, the 1DX is a nimble, always ready to go, modern marvel of electronic perfection – The Leica on the other hand is slow, deliberate, sometimes prone to failure (seriously, it’s exposure system seems to have tourettes or something?), but also full of art and intent. After spending 4 hours walking around getting used to range finder focusing and getting to know all it’s quarks, well, I don’t hate it yet – I’ll keep on experimenting.
One thing I is for sure though – It’s easy to love it’s hand made, German craftsmanship, and the quality of the sensor and the lenses – those just blows me away.
