Success Story-New Book Exposes Health Threat to Black Americans & Offers Free Solution

In honor of American Heart Month and Black History Month, my writing coach client Dr. Surender R. Neravetla has published his second book Salt: Black America’s Silent Killer (Health Now Books, 2014) and released the related book trailer (which I helped create).  The cardiac surgeon and Director of Cardiac Surgery at Springfield Regional Medical Center never intended to write this book, which exposes a critical health threat to Black Americans. But sometimes the material takes over and cannot be denied. So it was in this case.

After writing his first book Salt Kills  (Health Now Books, 12012), Dr. Neravetla received feedback that the section about Black Americans was way too cursory. Deciding to publish an online addendum, he began to research. What he discovered compelled him to write an full book instead.

It turns out that salt is literally decimating the Black American community. Salt is responsible for more Black American deaths than all other diseases combined. It targets Black Americans two to six times more often than White Americans and at far younger ages. And those salt-related health consequences—which include cardiovascular disease, strokes, kidney disease, asthma, obesity, osteoporosis and stomach cancer—are usually two to six times more acute.

No wonder every single Black American Dr. Neravetla operates on, no matter how young, has an enlarged heart.

No wonder three times more Black Americans are on dialysis than their percentage of the population would warrant.

Salt: Black America’s Silent Killer explains in easy-to-understand language the toll that salt is taking on Black Americans and examines why this is happening. The solution that could so dramatically improve the health of an entire community  is simple and free. Just say no to salt and high-salt processed foods.
