If your writing runs to the creative side—whether fiction or nonfiction—and you live in the Pacific Northwest, you just might want to heed the call for submissions to the Nature of Words’ 2014 Rising Star Creative Writing Competition.
Oregon, Washington and Idaho residents, both young and older, can enter their work into three different genre categories (fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry). To encourage younger writers, there are three age categories (15-18, 19-25 and 25+). Winners receive a cash prize, are invited to an awards ceremony in Bend, and are featured in The Nature of Words’ annual anthology. The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2014.
Your submission will be judged by professional writers. The 2014 panel includes fiction judge Chantal Strobel, Community Relations and Development Manager for the Deschutes Public Library; creative nonfiction judge David Jasper, journalist for The Bulletin; and poetry judge, Dr. Emily Carr, director of the Low-Residency MFA at OSU-Cascades.
