Success Story: Matt Huffman

Success Story: Matt Huffman

Florida mortgage broker Matt Huffman started working on his book Don’t Take No for an Answer: Can’t Get a Mortgage? Think Again last May. He wrote like he was being chased by a bull in Pamplona that was closing in fast. I’ve never experienced anything like it, especially from someone who had never written before.

From the moment another one of my writing coach clients suggested that he write a book to promote himself and his business, Matt was all in. My Sloppy Letter to Linden approach worked perfectly for him, allowing him to free-associate on paper without worrying about spelling, grammar, logic or continuity. It didn’t take long for the concepts of his book to surface. The two main ones:

  • People throw away tons of money on rent, unaware that they can qualify to buy a house if they work with the right person
  • You have a better chance of qualifying to buy a house if you work with a mortgage broker as opposed to a bank

Other topics would wind up including:

  • Why buying is better than renting
  • How to buy a home with little to no money
  • How credit works and affects your ability to buy
  • Debt-to-income ratios and how they work
  • How much money you need to buy
  • The different property types and how they can affect your application
  • Why you should never take no for an answer

On November 4, 2019, just five and a half months after writing his first sloppy letter, Matt Huffman published Don’t Take No for an Answer: Can’t Get a Mortgage? Think Again through my self-publishing company Incubation Press.

“The pride and chills I am getting from having the actual book in my hand and reading our words is indescribable,” he said. “By far my biggest life achievement!”

It’s probably not a big surprise that he’s already jumped in on book number two. Now there’s a success story!
