My lovely dad Leonard Gross passed away yesterday morning after a week filled with tears and laughter and so much love. He was the author, co-author or ghostwriter of 22 books, including recently self-published The Memoirs of JFK, a novel based on interviews he conducted with 50 of Kennedy’s inner circle after the President’s death.
Prior to writing books, and later films and plays, Dad wrote for numbers of magazines, principally LOOK, on whose staff he served for twelve years as a senior editor, Latin American correspondent, European editor and West Coast editor.
The morning of his passing, his long-time agent sent the email below about the book I feel is his best (heads up all you writers—miracles do happen):
I wanted to share the good news with you that your father’s Last Jews in Berlin hit #8 on the Amazon bestseller list and #5 on B&N on Tuesday when Open Road, its electronic publisher, ran a promotional campaign. It’s still #36 on Amazon this morning. We thought you should know.
How perfect.
