Being assaulted by TV commercials that are always louder than the program you’re watching is bad enough. But do we really have to suffer through an assault on grammar at the same time? The following is the most egregious offense I’ve heard lately. This comes courtesy of a Quaker TV commercial about granola bars and seems to be their new tag line:
Treat yourself good.
Really? I’m sorry, but treat yourself well sounds better. Unless they’re deliberately trying to court the uneducated masses, this Quaker TV commercial’s defiling the English language doesn’t serve them in the slightest.
If you’ve heard or witnessed any grammatical crimes on the airwaves, especially in commercials, I’d love to know about them. Then maybe we’ll create a campaign to help corporate America clean up its language.
